GOLDEN GOAL SOCCER CLINIC
AND DRIVE
Gives Back to Our Community and Beyond
|
High school seniors Sachi Schuricht
of Miramonte and Alex Taylor of Head Royce have played
soccer together since elementary school. They have
both been Girl Scouts in different troops since 1 st
grade. So when it came time to choose a Girl Scout
Gold Award project they were motivated to find a way
to blend their two passions: soccer and scouting.
Wanting to contribute back to their community they decided to organize
a soccer clinic for girls between the ages of 8 and 12 to learn and practice
skills and techniques during a day of fun, focus and fundamentals. Attending
as special guest coach was the technical director of girls for the Lamorinda
Soccer Club, Mohamed Mohamed.
Alex and Sachi from the GU18 CI team have been coached by Mohamed since
they were young players. “Mohamed has taught us a love for soccer
shared by those in his homeland of Sudan who don't have the same opportunities
we have here in America.” In combining their enthusiasm for
soccer with their desire to help others, they also collected useable
soccer gear from our local Girl Scout and soccer community to be sent
to The Almorada Footbal Club in Sudan, Africa. “We are proud to
continue Mohamed’s vision of people helping each other and creating
connections between communities.”

United '93
Advances to the Finals of the Bay Oaks Labor Day
Classic
|
The Lamorinda U12 girls combined
teamwork, skills, and intensity to dominate their competition
at the Bay Oaks Labor Day Classic. Coached by Katie Pittman,
the '93s came together to achieve their best performance in a
tournament to date. After winning their bracket with the highest
amount of points of any team in the tournament, the team faced
the Central Valley Spirit in the championship game Sunday afternoon.
Despite outshooting their opponent 9-1 during the game, LMSC
was unable to find the elusive winning goal, and took the 0-0
tie through regulation and double overtime into penalty kicks.
The score remained tied through 5 penalty kicks, when Central
Valley finally won the game on their 6th PK. As Coach Pittman
told the girls following the game, "Penalty kicks are the
most exciting way to win a game, but also the toughest way to
lose." This certainly held
true for these young girls who played their hearts out and showed
tremendous character throughout the weekend. The team demonstrated
the level they are capable of playing, and showed an incredible
amount of poise and confidence on the field. LMSC United '93
takes this mentality into their first GSSL Gold flight game this
Saturday at 8 am at Miramonte. Congratulations!

and run" strategy, the United were a pleasure to watch
throughout the entire tournament. The United also
beat the SASC United 6-0 on Saturday and fought the highly
regarded North Valley Tornados to a 1-1 tie on Sunday morning. On
a lighter note, there were three teams named "United" at the

DADS & DAUGHTERS PLAY “FRIENDLY”
U11 Girls Claim Victory...
Dads Lodge Formal Protest
|
The Girls U11 team played a tough match against their dads
on Saturday, January 15 on the Miramonte Lower Field. Aided
by keeper/coach Katie Pittman and an unidentified midfielder
who looked strikingly like the Girls Technical Director, Mo;
the girls claimed a solid win. The dads, who played an unconventional
1-8-1 side, were relentless in their attack and protested the
final score (which nobody kept).
One dad, who asked that his name be withheld, stated
that it was a win simply because none of the men required CPR. The
game was followed by milk and cookies and both sides agreed to
a re-match.
